Mystery Deepens as Stolen Storage Battery is Found

Joseph F. Jung, Englemann Township farmer, has recovered the storage battery stolen from him several months ago but the finding only wove a denser skein of mystery about the entire occurrence.

It will be remembered the battery worth $50, was stolen from a tractor on Jung's farm. As soon as the theft was discovered, bloodhounds were used unsuccessfully to trail the thief.

On Monday evening of this week Gottlich Garbs and William Bergheger found the battery in Lang's Grove, just outside Mascoutah. While it had been raining the night before the battery was not wet and there were fresh tracts around the place.

The authorities believe the trail was getting too hot for the thief and he took means to dispose of evidence which might prove incriminating.
